I found A guy that wants to trade me a Navy Arms 12ga muzzleloader for my encore 45-70 pistol. I can't find much about this gun on the forum or any place else. I really wanted a 10ga precussion gun because I do alot of turkey and waterfowl hunting. Does anyone know how much this gun would be worth? He said it was a kit gun I don't know if he built it or someone else, its a nice looking gun.

IMHO I'd need some cash with that trade--the encore costs more than the shotgun...I don't have a current value on it, though.

Don't know what the Encore is worth but i just sold a Navy Arms double .12 ga with a whole lot of extras for $325 and i see them go in that range on auctions quite often.

:nono: You could buy two of those shotguns for what the Encore is worth! IMO --Spud

Hi, my very first ML shotgun was a Navy Arms and I used it for many years here in NZ on waterfowl with some success. But as an alternative have a look at Pedersoli's 10g SxS Perc shotgun, it has 30" barrels and is choked (the navy arms isn't), it also comes in camo and plain. Best of luck.

The NA is a dandy gun. I hunted with one extensively for 15 years- everything from ptarmigan and snowshoe hare to geese. Feel foolish for letting it go, and would love to have another.

But not at that price.

Trade in on the encore from gun shop is $300. I figure the going rate is $350 TO $400 personal sales from past gun sales and trades with the same type of encore. The scope isn't really worth much just the gun. I didnt know how much a navy arms shotgun is worth. I would like a shotgun with removible chokes so I can be covered from turkey to waterfowl and a 10ga but a 12ga would work. I might just wait to find one like that.

I just paid $275, private sale, for a navy arms 12 ga. double caplock in good condition. In a local gunshop I saw one that looks almost brand new for $500. Don't know if this will help you or not, but just thought I would let you know.

i know you want a good pattern but asking for modified chokes in a ml. shotgun is going to leave you playing h*ll trying to stuff the cushion wads down the barrels. it will be tough to get them past the muzzle then they will be undersize and not seal well. i have found ways to alter my pattern with the materials and amounts of powder and shot. im no expert but you may want to reconsider on the chokes.

Right on the money, mopar.

If you doubt the choke issue, spend a few nickels for the wads you plan to use, then try to stuff them down the barrel of a modern shotgun with chokes. That bag of wads will be the best investment you ever make.

I've long been debating picking up a Pedersoli 10 and a Pedersoli 20, but the chokes have stopped me. The guns aren't cheap in the first place, and on top of that I'll have to pay $80-120 per barrel to have someone ream out the chokes and repolish the bores.
