I have a CVA 12 Gauge I bought from someone on the forum many years ago. Did a lot of work to make it look like I wanted it to look.

Hundreds, maybe thousands, of muzzle loading trap shooters load their full choke shotguns every match with no problem whatsoever. Just takes a little thought process.

Use needle nose pliers to bend 1/4 or less of the card slightly upward. No need to break it. Then insert the card as normal, with the bent up portion sticking up. You need a range rod or ramrod the size of the choke, or slightly smaller.

When you seat the card the folded part flattens out in the full bore chamber.

You can't use fiber wads, (most competitors see no use in them) and I've seen nitro cards used, but they're harder to bend.

My mentor can bend enough for a match in under 2 minutes. I take a zip lock bag and bend a few 100 during commercials watching tv.

At the last muzzle loading trap shoot I attended many skilled shooters could Smoke a bird from the Handicap line.. that's 27 yards from the Bunker...btw, I am NOT one of those shooters.

My 32" full choked 10 bore will ruin a coke can at 40 yards... watch out Tom Turkey.

I have a Pedersoli marked and sold by Dixie. Fairly plain, browned, Mod and full and weighs barely 6 pounds. Back when then there were lots of wild pheasants in California it regularly got its limit. (Like the state, most all died). It also did well at ML trap, replacing my original, gold inlaid, dolphin hammer, presentation, 11 bore double by Nathaniel Whitmore, Cambridge Mass. (too rare to shoot as he made stuff for US grant and sherman ect ) .

Got the DGW pedersoli from the Late Bill Wescombe (aka Mr Rolling Block). Shoots very well with plastic (sorry) piston cups 70 grains 2f and overshots made from milk cartons. Will post pics of both when things calm down. (or not at all if civil war breaks out).

I had one that was choked. Hated it. :cursing: Never so happy to sell a gun. Loading near impossible with the choke restriction.
I have one i bought in the early 80's. made by BP, Imported and branded by Navy Arms. They called it the Turkey and Trap. Choked full and full.
I had no problems loading, heavey card wad over powder and thin over shot. Turn them sideways and give them a little curve to get them past the choke, the ramrod will flaten them out and seat them strait.
Used square loads, 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 #7 1/2 or #6. Killed a lot of squirrels and a few rabbits, also one woodcock on a rabbit hunt.
The loading method was recomended by V. M. Star if i remember corectly, he said it was the best way and gave the best patterns in choked guns.
