Recently bought this Navy Arms rifle. The tang and breech plug are one piece.

Rifle may have been assembled from a kit because it had some issues. The hammer would not stay cocked. The trigger was adjusted. The lock bolt was interfering with the tang screw: That was fixed.

The bore is perfect. And the rifle groups very well, about 1 1/4" at 50 yards.

Firing patched round ball, the rifle was shooting about 7" high at 50 yards with the rear sight in the lowest notch. Made a new taller front sight from a nickel. Gun is shooting about 5" low presently. Next time out i will file down the front sight again and get the rifle zeroed.

i owned a Navy Arms Hawken nearly like this one in the 1970s. That rifle had the dovetail barrel and tang.

When was this rifle made?

Hey okie hog.i joined this forum today specifically because I have the same rifle.i picked it up a few weekends ago at a local flea market, along with an unmarked 45 cal single shot pistol(unmarked percussion),and an unfinished 45cal flintlock pistol made by cva I think.i paid 140 bucks for all 3.guy has 2 44 cal revolvers, both cva's brass frame I'm trying to get also.could have gotten the 1858 Remington copy today for 90 bucks.just didn't have the cash. Back to the navy 50....was having trouble finding a replacement/spare nipple.was on track of the wolf about an hour ago.found em! In case you ever need one,it's product # MRHH-S.$7.99 EA. Haven't shot any of them yet.been disassembling them and cleaning.making sure the lock pieces are reliable.cant figure out how to upload pictures on the site

"The tang and breech plug are one piece"

How can the tang and breech plug be one piece? If so, how do you take the barrel off?
