Was offered these 3 revolvers the other day and the guy said "make me a fare offer" dont want to pay to much but I dont want to take too much advantager of him.

The first is a Remington 1858 boxed set and the second is a brace of Colt 1851 Navy's.
The Remington is unfired and at the very least, the Colts are unfired by the seller.

All three are Fillipietta

any input is appreciated

COD

The colts sell for 200 new, and the 1858 sells for 219 new.

I would shoot for 150.00 on each pistol, and try and get the extras for free! Lay down cash, and see what happens!

He might take less, but don't know his situation.

Source: The Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms, Fifth Edition (2007) (Sixth Edition is now in print).

Pietta 1858 Remington New Army steel frame $135 in 100% condition. The pictured gun appears to be the 5" barrel version; however, no premium is listed for that model. Also, the Blue Book does not list a boxed set. The retail price for a new Pietta 1858 Remington New Army Police (5" barrel) is currently about $220 (Cabela's). I would personally put the value of that set at $240-$280 assuming the 'unfired' description of condition is accurate.

Pietta 1851 Colt Navy steel frame $180 in 100% condtion. This is about the current retail price, perhaps a bit lower. I'd offer $325 and settle for $350.

The Blue Book is only a guide. Actual prices can and do vary considerably in either direction.

If he can land that deal for 116.00 for each gun, and the extras? Wow! That would be a steal!

Yes, book values seem to be often written by people who don't really know the values. I have seen that time and time again. That is why I don't use them!

I always go based on current retail, and current auction sales prices. That is the best, and most up to date info you can get!

If you don't want to go to 450.00 tell him I will, if he bucks your offer!

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Having posted my question so early in the day, I thought I might have to wait for a response till tonight.

Anyway, called the guy up and told him I really dont have a clue what they might be worth and I didnt want to low ball him so I asked him to put a price on them that he thought was fare and we could star our horse tradin from there.

Well he came back with 200.00 for the three guns and all accessories plus shipping (a family members friend in another state) I told the guy to consider them sold.

I guess I'll just have to find a way to live with myself, huh?

:rotf: You SCALPED that guy!!!!!

But, he handed COD the knife. :rotf:

$200 for all three, including the case and tools?

The universe is tilted. :applause:

I don't pay much attention to a "Blue Book" either.
Prices to me are determined, by several factors: How quick seller wants to get rid of them, how much you want them, how long they been sitting in the case at the shop, how flooded is the market for that particular weapon. But condition is always a first consideration. And how much junk (ie parts, and supplies) are included.
AND YOU GOT A GOOD DEAL> have fun playing with them.
