As stated, Navy Arms didn't make much of anything. They ordered mostly from Italian makers, who may or may not, still be in business.
I posted a question on another thread about trying to link up past brands with makers and if the maker went out of business, who maybe took over their tooling. For instance, Western Arms sold guns made in Italy. My 1860 Navy 36 from Western Arms, was made by ASM. When ASM went out of business, who, if anyone took over their machinery and did that new company continue making guns and lastly do the parts interchange.
From what I read, most of the CVA marketed cap and ball guns were made by ASM, and most of the Traditions brand cap and ball revolvers were made by Pietta.
Somewhere I read that Garrett Arms contracted with Palmetto to make Sharps repros to a very high quality. When the exchange rate changed and Garrett Arms ceased operations, Palmetto sold the machinery to Pedersoli, which continued making Sharps repros with the same tooling. BUT, I have never been able to verify that.
If somebody could actually trace the "lineage" of these companies, perhaps some of the older guns would be easier to fix.
