:thumbsup: In the .44 Colts(Armi San Marco) I used to own I had good results with 25-30 gr. FFFG and tried the 30 gr Pyrodex pellets. All the loads worked very well. Wish I still had them.
 
Another thing to consider is that black powder is usually measured by VOLUME equivalent; the substitutes should also always be measured by volume, NOT weight. Once you have your measure set at the volume (weight) you want, use that same setting for the subs (EXCEPT for 777 which should be set about 10-15% lighter). Glad you solved your problem.
 
A given volume of any of the synthetic powders will always weigh less than the same volume of black powder. It can be as much as 30 percent lighter.

It is NOT less powerful than the same amount of real black powder though.
That is why you can use a volume type powder measure set for say, 30 grains of black powder and use this same setting for a synthetic black powder and get roughly similar velocities.

Like mazo kid said, an equal volume of 777 is a little more powerful than real blackpowder so most of the people who shoot it reduce their loads like he said.
