This rifle is a beauty. I am pretty sure it has never been fired. The bore was heavily greased and nipple had a stiff, saturated piece of cloth to stop leaking out. Bore is pristine. The brown finish is about flawless, with some minor wear near muzzle where I think a bayonet had been mounted. There is some kind of fitting attached to barrel. Unfamiliar to me. Wood has almost no handling marks. Brass as shiny as new. Comes with a pristine canvas sling (no sweaty reenactor shouldered this), patch worm and extra nipple. Hard to upgrade. $950 + Shipping.

I believe it’s a bushing of some type to enable a specific bayonet to work on that rifle.

how come that mississippi rifle is worth 950 used where a Zouave almost the same rifle used is only worth 450? they are very similar

Probably due to the large production numbers they made of these rifles, but none actually seeing service during the war. So reenactors don't really want them whereas m1841s saw a ton of use, and reenactors, shooters, collectors, etc want them.

Yes, so am I. The m1863 Remington rifle- although a nicely built rifle, never saw actual use during the War. Hence, why so many are found today in excellent condition.

When the Italians began reproducing Civil War arms, they began first with the Zouave rifle. And folks bought them up- not realizing they did not see actual use. So then they began reproducing the m1841. While reenactors can use m1841s, the Zouave is practically worthless except for shooting and N-SSA matches. Reenactors can't use it, because many events ban 2-band rifles (in an effort to get rid of Zouaves from the reenacting field), and because they can't use it to portray anyone that used it during the war.

Meanwhile, 1841s are still being used, and hoarded over because they can be shot, reenacted with, displayed, etc. The m1863 is cheap because no one wants them. Can't even defarb them or change the setup to portray a Confederate produced 2 band rifle.
