I have a .54cal smooth bore with a 51 1/4" long barrel. I cant find anything in this size. I dont care if its wood or modern plastic, i just need something that is long enough to get to the bottom and have a 10-32 thread for a cleaning jag.

Any ideas?

I get mine made at October Country...solid brass and strong tubular brass....he has other blank materials as well...not sure about wood though as I never use it.

He makes them to any custom finished length I want...tapers one end for the cleaning/seating jag, and applies a nice cross hatch pattern on the last 1.25" that's up under the muzzle for a non-slip grip pulling it out.

The tubular ones are extremely strong with .060" walls and he glues/pins the ends one then finishes them off so you have to look close to even find the pins.

I have him D & T each end 10/32", and buy one of his 2" wooden balls which already has a strong 10/32" screw that goes all the way through it from one side to the other.

Get a 4 ft. dowel from the hardware store and put ramrod tips on both ends. Use one of those 3" +/- "T" handles sold by TOW and your in business. I believe the thread size on the T handle is 10/32 - your choice 8 or 10/32 for the other end of the cleaning rod.

Try RMC Sports on the links page under suppliers they have custom length rods and jointed rods in 12" & 6" lengths in complete kits of just the rod.

go to the local farm store or coop, get a 60" fiberglass fence post for electric fence. they are 3/8 inch and you can cover it with good electrical tape or spray it with polyurathane to keep it from damging the crown.Or better yet, get a bore guide for it. sand the end down and put you on a rod end available from someone like totw, dixie ect.

you canalso get long derlin or uhmw plastic round stock from mcmaster carr dot com!

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'll see what the local stores have the next time i am in town.

You can also get a section of chimney cleaning rod; that is about 3/8" and only a couple of bucks. They are threaded, but don't know what size threads.
