Need a new shooting bag - Recommendations?

Flask has a cut off gate - So it fills a 60gr tube, cuts off the powder from rest of the supply with a brass cut off gate. I do believe that is what it's made for and how it was designed to be used....Still probably not the best setup come to think of it.

That is how it is and what it was made for IN COMBAT. Faster loading than the safe way. Generals didn't care if the occasional soldier blew his face and hands off if the rate of fire was fast.

Only if the previously prepared paper cartridges ran out. Revolution or Civil War.

Elmer Keith in his book "SIXGUNS" describes how old Confederate cavalrymen told him in their old age they preferred to load their Navy Colts with loose powder and round ball during the War of Northern Agression. They claimed it had greater stopping power against the enemy.

So, some did it out of choice, not just when the conical bulleted combustible envelope paper cartridges ran out.

Kieth actually interviewed two old soldiers...the other a yankee cavalryman who said basically the same thing. Both agreed a ball put the enemy out of the fight but the conical could leave him in it. Many Texas regiments preferred shotguns with buckshot but spraying 'blue whistlers' around a cavalry melee could bounce a couple off your own guys! :wink: Southern cavalrymen favored several revolvers, as many as 6 if they could be obtained, to stay in the fight without having to reload!

Visit yard "tag" sales or thrift shops and look for a leather purse of the size you require. Turn the purse inside out and, if it has a adequate strap, you are in business.

My bag from October Country, is a very well made bag. Made from very heavy leather. I have the larger Long Hunter bag. It came with several large pieces of scrap material, inside. I've used them to make hammer stalls and other small items.

I used a leather softening cream, to make it a little softer, and to protect it from the weather.

The quality of this bag, is made to last a lifetime.

Made my own. Several for others. Fun and cheap. 8" x 8", center divider, long flap, soft leather keeps contents from moving and rattling. Efficient for plinking or hunting. For combat will use what is not discussed on this forum.

My first was a Tandy leather kit I bought back in 94, my second bag I just made last July.
I looked at many examples on line and knew the type I wanted, I just happened to stumble across a pattern on line but it is simple to make your own.
