Why not require a Permit to Purchase Alcohol? There are plenty of irresponsible drunks out there. No booze for you if you ever had a DUI in your past.

Ten or 12 years ago, I purchased a cap and ball revolver from a place in New Jersey. They absolutely would not under any circumstances send it anywhere but to a FFL dealer. Said their state law required it. My local dealer didn't charge me anything so no big deal. I did read about a guy that sold a muzzle loader that ws used in a crime and he was sued because the fellow who recieved the gun was barred from having any guns under the law of the state where both the seller and buyer lived. So from then on the seller demanded that all muzzle loaders went through a dealer. His gun, his rules.

It is, but in the Post-Constitutional Era we now live in, details such as that no longer matter.
That view probably reflects the sentiments of the majority of the voters of Minnesota anyway, and is spreading across the U.S.
Don't confuse the good people of Minnesota with the idiots in Minneapolistan. Two different worlds.

Probably not, I would bet the majority of folks up that way are on the same page. If not there would be no problem with a BP gun now would there.

I don’t like the situation either, but in most states the majority of the population lives in urban areas, so that is where the majority of the votes are. One or two large urban areas covering a few square miles can ruin things for the residents of the remaining 98% of the geographical area of the whole state.

I live in the Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area, and I purchased 5 Black Powder guns on line or from this forum in 2020. All were shipped directly to my home, no problems encountered, and no questions asked.

If something has changed, it has been very recently, and I have not heard of it.

FWIW, once upon a time, I tried to buy a C&B revolver from Cabela's - and they denied the sale, telling me the same thing.

In my state, muzzleloaders of any description are regulated the same as a pair of sneakers...….

So, about ten minutes after Cabela's cancelled my purchase, I successfully ordered the same gun (priced $10 higher) from Bass Pro.

I felt it was worth the $10 difference to get the gun, and vowed that I would never buy anything from Cabela's again.. ( and, I haven't)

The moral of my story: If you don't like the way someone conducts their business, take your business elsewhere.

I watch a lot of these auctions and had never seen that message before. I bought two BP rifles from an online auction in Wisconsin a few months ago and went to pick them up without any questions or paperwork. That auction house is connected with a gun dealer that does all the background checks and paperwork. Two more from an East Coast FFL dealer will be here tomorrow, no questions, no paperwork.

As a side note, I was reading the laws for carrying a pistol in Minnesota. You can't carry a BB pistol without a permit. Weird.

It would help clarify matters a little if everyone would list in their avitar the state where they live. Yes, "THEY" are out to get you, 😲 but this won't stop them.

Keep in mind while antique or reproduction black powder guns do not meet the definition of a firearm under federal law, they do meet the definition of a dangerous weapon under state law. For some reason a few misguided individuals believe that thre is something special about them that makes it OK to carry comcealed without a permit and things like that. It's a distinction without a difference, jail time is jail time.

Apparently, if you are out of state.
The clerk didn't know what he was talking about, Cabelas will send it to any Cabelas/Bass Pro shop for a $25 fee. Did that with my unmentionable Sharps Carbine, they called when it arrived here, went in, filled out the paperwork and walked out with it 20 minutes later.

So if you want to buy a BP pistol at Cabelas they have to send it to your ffl?
In certain states, the is an agreement between states concerning sales of firearms between states. It's a strange web of laws and viewpoints over firearms. My state requires a handgun purchase permit for each handgun, over and above the FOID.

Same here. Is it still illegal to own a slingshot in NJ?
