Guys I just picked up a swamped 35 inch barrel. Is was made by Ed Rayl. In fact, he handed it to me today. I ran into him at a show. He found the barrel in his shop and doesn't remember making it. It came with under lugs, front and rear sights installed and it is breeched. Never been installed on a stock. No touch hole. It is 31 caliber. So I need a couple of things. #1 Small Siler flint (right hand). I know they can be purchased from suppliers, but I am looking to save some money if someone has one that they are not going to use and want to clear out. I am also looking #2 for a .300 round ball mold. Thanks.

Have you tried posting in the "Classified" section of the forum?
No I haven't. Needing parts for a build didn't seem to fit in any of the descriptions. I thought this was the best forum for it. If it needs to be moved, that's fine, I was just unsure where to put it. Thanks.

I thought Ed died a couple years ago.
No he looked pretty alive to me today. I called him at his shop a while back and he answered. I don't know anything about his son, but I was super glad to pick up one of his barrels.

Sorry, I was mistakenly referring to Jeff Tanner's son at ballmolds dot com

Are you sure that the Rayl barrel isn't intended to be loaded with .310 balls?
I guess that you'll eventually find out what it prefers to be fed.o_O

No, it is a 31. Kind of unique, that is one reason I bought it.

I realize that it's a .31, probably on the lands.
Some match barrels want to be fed with bore diameter size balls so the balls actually get engraved for better accuracy.
That's only speculation.
It doesn't mean that it won't shoot well with smaller balls.
However, bore size balls may be an option.
For example, some folks recommend to load the Hege-Siber .33 match pistol with #0 or #00 buck shot with a linen patch and 8 grains of powder.
#0 buck shot = .320
#00 buck shot = .330

It's just food for thought before buying a mold, especially one by special order.

Thanks friend, I will have to look into what you have said for my particular barrel. Thanks Ed

Man, I would just bite the bullet and get a new lock. If this was a CVA barrel or something like that sure, but Rayl is top shelf stuff.
Another thing is a used lock is a pig in a poke. Some "Silers" may not be real Silers but parts kit assembled by who knows??? That and most guys want as much or more for a used lock as you can find a new one for, especially the more premium locks.
For such a nice barrel I would consider a small Stan Hollenbaugh Beck Pistol lock. Of course a new Chambers is almost a default..
About the best Siler style lock I have ever seen was a Cain. That was a nice lock....I wish I could have had it.

I am with you on the new lock. I was not asking for a used one laying around but one that someone had bought for a project and never used. Last year I sold a brand new lock that I changed my mind on. I sold it cheaper than the suppliers have them for. I did find one. Thanks buddy.
