This is a bit less erotic but parts are nicely carved. It is from Johann Georg Maucher the father. I the caption read that a sister piece was in a Museum in Vienna. I may be mistaken but I had read somewhere that Europe, America, and Africa were depicted on separate works. This is Africa and it is very exotic. Notice the strange looking crocidile :haha:

posidin was the god of the sea but also the god of earthquakes and the god who gave people horses.Gifting was a "feminin "aspect of the god/godess relationship,and earthquakes were thought to come from the distaff side.Thus we have the gift of the gun,or its earthquake,or horse like power.And as stated otherwise 16th cent ****
 
I should have written down the name of the museum in Vienna and the referrence to the 1972 book in the auction description now I'll never find it. The companion piece to the Johann Georg Maucher stock interests me alot. It might be worth tracking down for a photo. Imagining 3 replicas on my walls. Africa, Europe, and America. Wow! Would be AWESOME!
