perhaps my kids are right and i'm beyond help, but ...
just scored a walnut stocked Kibler SMR in .45 caliber ... i have some tried & true, which have used on ash with nice result...

Jim recommends this on walnut, too ... sounds reasonable (he most surely knows more than i about such things

i worry, however, about the sequence: sand first? put some on (i'm thinking thinned about half) ... let dry, do again ... work up to full strength ? ...)

and recommendations would help, and thanks in advance ...

Here’s a couple pictures of a walnut Underhammer stock that I just completed. There was no stain of any kind used. I used two very wet coats of LMF Permalyn stock sealer applied with a maroon colored Scotch Bright pad. Each coat was allowed to soak for about 10 minutes then wiped off with clean paper towel. Let dry for 24 hours between coats. Hand rubbed 2 additional coats of the Permalyn, again 24 hours dry time between coats. Lightly rubbed with 0000 wool and tack cloth each time. I will let it cure for a couple weeks and see if I’m happy with it or not.
