need help choosing powder.

Hi fellers,I just want to thank you guys for giving me good advice.Now I have been using pyrodex for 30 yrs and no it pretty well.I can buy goex for about 2/3 the price and a powder kalled kik for even less.If I buy these powders what am I differences am I going to notice both good and bad,thanks.

I prefer to use Pyrodex Pistol fffg in all calibers when nothing else is on clearance. I use lower powder charges to keep fouling to a minimum and like the fact that it often promotes better ignition. Also, the smaller granulation makes it more compact after it's dropped into the barrel, with less air and less chance for inconsistent seating of the ball when rammed. (Reduce powder volume by about 10%.) :blue:

I used Pyrodex in percussions for several years and thought it was very good...then switched to Goex when I switched to Flintlocks and thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Goex is fast, clean, accurate, and never an ignition problem, hang fire, etc...if the hammer drops it's going off 'right now'.

You'll have to find a local shop that carries it, but frankly, I find it easier and cheaper to just mail order it...some places let you order loose cans with a 5 can minimum, but the most cost effective way is to have a case delivered with the per pound price in the $9.50-$10.00 range.

Whatever you do, don't let anybody talk you into selling you any Elephant powder. You'll be sorry if you do. Nasty, hard to ignite, dirty, cakey fouling junk. Does make good fertilizer though. ::

Yes Goex is good, consistant powder. I have some about 10 years old that seems to be exactly the same as some I bought recently. Sounds like a good deal on the ten pounds. Can't really go wrong with it.

I have gotten Kik and In a .32 cal rifle I had the stuff shined that green mountain barrel just loved the stuff and had the best shooting with the powder I only used it in the .32 and extremly clean burning , like everything else it disapeared for awhile and I sold the gun goex is made here and just a phone call away and delivered quick for powder inc. bb75

Hi,I live in near dayton ohio and the distributer is in findley.He has walk in specials on 10lbs or more.

Use the same volume of measure of powder for GOEX black powder as you now use for Pyrodex. Pyrodex was designed to be virtually volume for volume replaceable for black powder.

Highgain, just wondering, I am even closer than you are to Findlay. Does he sell any other powders than Goex? The guy in Findlay, I called about a yr. ago and a young fella answered the phone. I told him what I was looking for and if he had said, there was a "walk-in" price, I would have drove right over!

Heck you got me I called on the phone to.I was told if I came there I wouldnt have to pay some hazerdous shipping fee but could buy it at straight bulk price.I assumed since he was a distributer for goex he would have the same powders as powder inc but dont know that as I havent been there yet.Just testing the feedback on powder.I am moving to anaconda montana in a couple of months and want to stock up now in case I cant find it out there.

Goex FFF is a notch above Pyrodex RS/Select/P. I really like the sub powders best like American Pioneer and Goex Pinnacle FFF. Same power and I don't have to clean them for a week.eace:

highgain- If you drive from Dayton to Anaconda, MT you could go through Miles City, MT. There gives Western Powder, the largest Master Distributor of reloading powders in North America. They carry a full line of smokeless and black powder. Go to Links on the main page of this forum- choose Powder links- choose Western Powder. However, when I clicked on "order online" or whatever it was, I got some unrelated popup ads that caused me to give up on them. So I don't know their prices, but they have an 800 number. That could save you hauling a large supply of hazardous black powder in your trunk or truck across half of the US. I have been through Anaconda, back in 'ought 53.
