What you have pictured is a Pedersoli Plainsman Rifle. The Plainsman has been discontinued for some time now. But it is still a pretty good rifle since Pedersoli makes a pretty good rifle. The lock is styled after a lock designed by Buchele and is a pretty good lock. Balance of the rifle with its 37" barrel is considered to be good. Now that you have it cleaned up it is likely to be a good shooter.

It is very similar to the present Pedersoli Kentucky Rifle:

The Pedersoli is also a good starting point to get some information on using and taking care of your rifle.

Of course there are a number of topics here on the Forum that deal with maintenance and loading and proper care of your rifle.

The Pedersoli site also has several videos in its support section on loading, cleaning, suggested loads and performance.

I think there a few sections of the Pedersoli literature that some of us on the board may have a slight difference of opinion and others will chime in.

What caliber?
