I recently acquired an ERA cumberland fowler in a a trade. I like the piece well enough but would like to replace the current iron hardware with brass. I have found the correct replacements for the ramrod pipes as well as the trigger guard. I am having difficulty identifying the style, type and the retailer for the butt plate Larry is using. I half thought about asking him if one is available in brass but thought I would ask here first if anyone has any ideas. Thanks for any help. His pic of the cumberland fowler can be found here : http://www.earlyrusticarms.com/pricesanddescriptions.htm

Here are pics of the iron butt plate on mine now. Look familiar to anyone? I wondered if it wasn't a reshaped french butt plate.

Sounds like its time for the Track of the Wolf catalog with their pages of full sized photos of parts. You should be able to find a replacement in there somewhere.

Fitting a new buttplate to a finished rifle is not a piece of consider starting to build your own long guns. They are not standardized to the point where you just remove one and pop in the other, like parts for a modern cartridge gun.

Thanks guys, I am not sure if I will go on and attempt it yet or not. I have done it with other cheaply obtained flinters with pretty good results. I am interested in eventually doing a kit gun, it is just deciding which one to do. Doing one from scratch is intimidating although I would definitely consider a kit in the white. Thanks for your help and opinions. Chris
