Do any of you guys out here in Utah, know of any place in, or around Salt Lake that sells black powder. Been to several gun shops and can not find it. Thanks for any help you can give.

There ought to be somebody local, but if not, I found this on the links page. Min. order is five pounds. http://www.powderinc.com/catalog/order.htm

I believe the county that Salt Lake City is in (Davis?) outlawed the sale of black powder. Smith and Edwards (north of there) has it. Also Cabelas, wherever they are. A friend of mine from Vernal bought some there and and it was such an ordeal I doubt he'll ever buy any more there.

Thanks alot will give Smiths & Edwards a try. The folks at Sportsmans said it was a problem keeping it the paperwork and storage.

WOW! I didn't realize they had moved Salty City from Salt Lake County to Davis County. The church must be exercising their power again. :rotf:

Gunnies is in Utah County - S&E in Box Elder County, so it could be right that SL & Davis County doesn't allow sales of black anymore.

You could buy it there in the 60's & 70's no problem though (Wolfe's, Gallensen's, Allied Development, Golden Spike, etc in SLC). Also at Crazy Crow in Ogden (Weber County) and Van Wagenen's in Provo (Utah County).

Times change I guess.

I didn't say it was in Davis County, that was the best guess because I couldn't read the map. I only get over there every year or so and wasn't sure of the county.

Guys: Why not google " Goex ", go to their map of the United States that show the distributors around the country, and those that service Utah, and then contact them, either by phone or e-mail to locate the nearest supplier of Black Powder to you? The distributor is in the business of selling powder. He certainly wants to make if available to you. He will find a way to get you the powder you want.

"I believe the county that Salt Lake City is in (Davis?)..."

Just yanking you chain Herb.
Comes from knowing just about every inch of that state like my own backyard.

Used to spend a lot of time in your area too - Flaming Gorge during the years it was first filling, fishing the river and mineral/fossil hunting. I wouldn't spend much time along the Wasatch Front either if I lived in the great country you do.

Thanks for that post. I ain't as smart as I am handsome.

from Coonies in Hobbs, New Mexico, delivered to your door for about $12 a lb. From a store it'll cost you about $20.

Check Trader's Den in Logan. They used to sell that stuff - 801-752-8004. I used to hang around that store long ago.
