Move the flints over enough in the jaws that they don't hit the barrel. When you put a new flint in lower the hammer slowly and make sure the flint isn't going to hit the barrel. As for the ramrod marks, not sure why you would have ramrod marks on the outside of the barrel? Are you raising the rear sight to try to get the elevation up? If not, raise the rear, or lower the front to raise point of impact.

Couldn't have said it better. I finally ordered a new front and rear sight from Track last night. Getting the silver blade and brass base for the front and a buck horn for the rear. I will have to hand fit them, but at least this way they will be tight.

sounds like you're using too much powder to prime
with.too much prime acts as a fuse ,fill your pan about 1/3 full and keep it away from the touch hole and you should get faster lock time.

i am not even priming to 1/4 it may just be my priming horn. or it could be the 5/16 hole allowing the powder to shift over and act as a fuse? sounds like it is time to experiment some, i will keep yall posted.

Tou didn't Really mean that you have a 5/16" vent hole, did you? If so, that thing should be self priming. 1/16"-5/64" works good, even with 3f powder.

Rebel,
I didn't like the buck horn sight I got from Track. I'll save it for another rifle. I took the Lyman primitive sight, placed it in a vice and peened the heck out of the bottom. It fits nice and snug. That Lyman sight just fits the GPR, where the buck horn just looked out of place. Real happy camper now  .

A bit of fiddlin' will probably works this out, there may be a restiction of some sorts twixt the vent hole and the main charge I have heard of this with a gun with that type pf breech arraingmentif you have consistant fire in the pan then even with the vent hole not being in the perfect place you will usually get pretty good ignition as long as there is a clear path to the main charge....keep us posted.
