I have a Pedersoli made Lott Indian trade lock that I cannot make spark. I haver tried everything (casehardening, flints, leather/lead, spring tension, etc) and still frustrated. Can anyone recommend a good guy to re-work a bad frizzen?

Thanks,

Jim, Good luck with that lock! I have one on an old gun from the 1980s ( thats old to me! ) I ran in to the same problem with that skunky steel!
I ended up having to halfsole a thin piece of tool steel on the frizzen to solve this problem.
( I had a forge back then ) A couple of years ago someone found a box of these locks brand new. I bought one and it seems to be sparking now but I have not shot it much. I have no doubt I will end up having problems with this one also.
I wish you luck with this one!

They have a LOTT of problems. Slow and weak mainspring is problem #1. Problem 2 is friction everywhere slowing the lock down. Problem 3 is the frizzens need tempering and de-shining. A buffed frizzen is not a good thing.

I just sold an unused one to a guy for $40 (telling him all the problems; he wants it for parts) and I hope he doesn't send it back

Well,I am fairly new to flinters and I picked up a trade gun last winter with a LOTT lock on it. maybe someone worked some magic and tuned it or sumthin 'cause this one is fast and reliable.I am very happy with it. ( Probly those great flints from MO  )
