Hi Guys,
In previous conversations we were talking about jug-choking smoothbores. The address of the following individual was given as a person who could do the work...
Lowell Tennyson
209 E Lotte St.
Blue Grass IA. 52726
563-381-3711
However, Lowell is only able to jug-choke round barrels. Because my smoothie is a TC, with an octagonal barrel he wasn't able to help me. Do any of you know of a gunsmith who can do the job on an octagonal barrel?
Thanks,
Taylor in Texas

He jug choked Roundball's octagon Green Mountain .62 barrel to full for him. Maybe he means it has to be round on the inside. :rotf:

I need to call him and get him to do my Fowler.... I'm assuming he can do octagon/round barrels.

I sure don't understand that...a few months ago in March, he jug choked my 1" x 33" GM octagon flint barrel that drops into a TC Hawken stock...identical dimensions to a TC barrel...he had me remove the under rib and rear sight before I shipped it...so you might call him back and offer to remove those items, etc...and at a minimum, see if he can refer you to somebody who will...just talking to him again may get it done.

Hey Roundball.... did he offer different differnet types of choke: modified, improved, or full or does he just do full?

I'm thinking full would be ideal for turkeys but to tight for rabbits and squirrels.

Two comments:
1) Yes, the degree of choke is controlled by the size of the expansion chamber...the larger diameter the chamber, the tighter the choke (yes, I said it right).

2) However, in pattern testing mine, I discovered my best result for longest range, tightest pattern came from using just one Oxyoke wonderwad over powder...and if I used two wads the pattern opened up faster...still an even pattern, just a broader pattern.

So I was doubly glad I got the full choke (.030" diameter enlargement for the chamber), because I can then control a more open pattern for other small game by using more wads, or using more powder, or using different size shot, or less shot, etc.

But if I had started with a more open jug choke to begin with, I wouldn't be able to reach out there for the long range shots like the full choke gives me...(been there / done that with the cylinder bore in the first place)

ok... I'll get it Full. I can always build another one. Thanks
Just so we're clear...I told you my personal experience and personal conclusion using my loads in my GM barrel...I'm not in a position to make "recommendations" to anyone based on a single instance...so apply that windage to your decision.
