i have ordered a 1 lb. divers ballast weight. when I get it, I will post pics of the shot.

Looking forward to it. That should be interesting. :pop:

I'm thinking of trying the old "poured shot" where you get teardrop like pellets, on my own. Just to see what "Joe in The Backwoods" could've come up with and how it shoots. Probably a situation of "better than nothing".

Crude shot was also made by cutting lead sheet into small pieces which could be rolled between 2 hard surfaces to "round" the edges.

I'd like to see that done once...Seems quite difficult to near impossible.

Try it yourself - it isn't as difficult as you might think. I've made larger shot by cutting pieces from lead wire and rolling it between my workbench and a 1" thick piece of Plexiglass. It only takes a few rotations to make a relatively uniform sphere.

im intrigued as well... how much pressure is required, could you do it with two pieces of wood?

"Arm" pressure.
You lose nothing by trying with 2 pieces of wood, but it may need to be hardwood/plywood if the pieces are small. Let me know how it works.

Well that's cheating....Lead wire is already a cylinder....You said "lead sheet" :shocked2:

Very little difference between a cylinder and a cube - lead is very malleable. What's a few corners among friends....?

I cut a strip from sheet lead so the cross-section was square and cut the strip into cubes. I rolled the pieces between two sections of fir board with firm pressure, moving the top board in a circular manner. In short order, most of the pieces were spherical. If the pieces are not close to being a cube, they will not roll freely and remain flat.

found what I need on ebay. they list 1 , 3, 5 lbs. of divers wait belts. they are filled with shot. waiting on what size it is . 1 lb. costs 5 bucks plus 5 for shipping.
Not for nothing but $10.00 for 1 pound of shot is not very smart nor economical at all.

For $6.00 I will send you a Small Flat rate box of 6's or 8's your choice.

I just received the 1 lb. bag of shot. it would be a waste of time to post a pic. it is no. 4 shot size. since you cant post companies, send mea pm and I will send info, on seller. I would recommend buying the 3 or 5 lb. bags. shipping is the same as 1 lb..

:hmm: perhaps we could get together and develop a new exercise machine where we send the fat people two pieces of plywood and some cubed lead and they can sandwhich the lead, hop on, put on some tunes and wiggle us some lead shot. They return the lead shot for some more cubes? Unlimited source of shot, free labor and were doing our part to SLIM AMERICA! (u heard it here first :rotf: )

anyone know of a source for 1 pound bags of shot.

I wish you lived closer because I have a bunch of assorted old shotgun shells that you could have.

I make my own from range scrap lead, wheel weights, or whatever I happen to find. All I did was drill a hole in a stainless steel coffee scoop (bought at local grocery store for $1), tie a stick to the short extension to have a handle that wouldn't burn my hand, and pour melted lead through it. If I keep the scoop an inch or two above a water container, a coffee can in my case, and it drips lead into the water and gives (mostly) spherical shot. It's not perfect, with a few having tails, and a few having dimples, but it works fine out of both my .54 smooth rifle and my 20ga shotgun. Almost forgot. I used a 1/16" drill bit, and get shot that is about #4-5. Always read that you control the size of shot with what size hole you drill, but I can't remember the formula used and have been happy with my results so haven't experimented with trying to make larger or smaller shot.

Not perfect by any means, or even pretty, and definitely not commercial quality, but very functional. I figure pick out the decent shot to use, and throw the rest back in the melting pot to recast into either RBs or more shot next time around. Works for me, and keeps me from having to buy stuff.
