Today I purchased a .32 cal percussion rifle. I need a range rod for it. I bought one for my .50 Lancaster (I think I got it online), but must be getting old - can't for the life of me remember where I bought it. I know it wasn't Dixie or October Country... Can anyone help an old guy out? Where can I buy one?

:thanks:

I don't know about ya'll but wouldn't a wood rod be better? A firearm's accuracy depends on the condition of the bore, muzzle wear has more affect than any other (keep in mind this is all from mil-surplus smokeless firearms expirience). so wouldn't anything but a wood rod be a very bad idea?

A brass rod with a muzzle protector cone on it should not cause any trouble. At least I hope not, I have been using one for a few years now, and have not seen any wear from it. :results:

I got a great hickory one from the Possible Shop. They advertise on this site and are great people to deal with. Good prices, quick delivery, quality goods. Give 'em a try.

I had RMC Sports make me a solid brass one for my .32 Crockett rifle. It fit in the thimbles under the barrel. Added a little weight to the gun, but sure made loading easy.

Track of the Wolf sells stainless steel non rotating (so you can pull a ball) ML range rods with bore guide in 2 or 3 different diameters. The price is only about $20 to $25.
I have two different brass rods from October Country and really like them but Stainless Steel is actually better because it is hard and abrasives don't stick in stainless as easy and abrade your bore.
My next rod for my .40 will be ordered from TOW

I have several stainless rods and like them quite well. They look like arsenal bright steel rods and do not abrade the bore if you use a bore guide. Of course, the stainless rod material is available at many welding supply or metal fabricating shops for a fraction of the cost if you can drill the hole down the center and tap it.

FearNot-
Just picked one up last week [Dixon's} from Tip Curtis [615/654-4445]. 47" 3/8 solid brass, non-rotating wood handle, bore guide and jag included -$20. Various lengths and calibers available.

.....Longshot

Just bought a stainless steel range rod with bore guide, wood ball handle, and accessories from TVM (Matt Avance) for around $20.00.

You can get a brass ramrod for your rifle and a t-handle and guide to make it into a range rod or an Elk horn handled brass range rod with the guide all from October country. I use the brass rods and the t-handle on all my guns. With the t-handle and guide in your bag your all set.

I use hard wood dowels, sized just under bore diamiter, for my range rods. I mark them for an empty barrel. My .36 cal is a sanded to fit 3/8" rod; my .54 cal is 1/2" rod and my .62 is a sanded 5/8"rod. I put 4" long X 1.5" diamiter wood grip handles on them and have the bottom of the handle fitted to 1" above the empty barrel mark. I have a Wonder :: Rod for my .54 that I'd gotten as a blanket shoot prize. But, I still use my wooden ones. :m2c:
