Hi all. Just bought a realy nice Cabelas hawken in 54. Cal. Does anybody know where I can get a rear sight for this gun ? Regular lyman rear sights wont fit. It doesnt have the usual Dove tail. It uses 2 screws to fasten to barrel. it looks almost like a T/C. hawken rear sight.

It has no sight now? What kind of sight are you looking for? What is the space between the 2 holes you have now?

Cabela's Hawkens were made by Investarms. The orignal sights had alot of side to side play on everyone i've owned. :shake: I'm not sure if a TC sight will fit of not, if they will thats what i would go with or a tang mounted sight.

What is the distance across the flats on your 54. Here ( I hope ) is a picture of my mounting a dovetailed buckhorn on a 45 using the origional mou nting holes and a plate.

As usual photo bucket won't work for me. If you send me your email in a p.m. I could email you the pictures. I have an extra mounting plate I could sell cheap.

Hmmm. Interesting bit of code in your message. To display the picture you only need this much of it: http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/qq289/OhioRamrod/004-1.jpg

Place that between the image tags by highlighting it and clicking on the little image icon at the top of the message box and you get:

I presume that's the photo you wanted to show.

2barrel,
Looks like the replacement sight used on the TC Hawkens in your picture. If that's what you need, PM me, I have a couple of them.

Thanks for all the help. Papa had a T/C Hawken sight I thought would fit but its way off. T/C screw holes were 7/8ths of an inch apart and this gun is about an inch and a half. Well, now Im thinkin Ill just re barrel it with a Lyman barrel for 100.00 bucks. Ill still be ahead of the game with the price I payed for the gun and Ill have a lot of different sights to choose from . And another big plus is that Ill be living up to my name. "2Barrel" :rotf:

Mike,
Looking back at your picture, the "Spence" type sights that I have are similar but the sight is fully adjustable and the base is longer. Re drill one of the existing holes and it will fly. Plenty cheaper than a new barrel!

Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

If the sight in the photo that mykeal posted is the sight on the gun, I don't see anything wrong with it except for it being a 'buckhorn' style.

As I don't like buckhorn sights I would file off the horns and call it good.

There is no way I would even think of spending over $100 for a barrel just to replace some perfectly good sights that are on the old one.

Head straight to the Lyman website. You'll find several front and rear sights available for your rifle. Lyman rifles are made by the same company as the Cabelas rifles. I would suggest doing some web shopping after you pick which models you prefer, as I am fairly sure the Lyman site is charging full retail.

That sight in the pic is not my gun and not my pic. The sight on my rifle looks just like a T/C Hawken rear sight only cheaply made.

The rifle I have is an Investarm. Same as the Lymans rifle. Every thing is exact with the Cabelas so called Hawken and the Lyman trade rifle except the Hawken has double set trigger and the Trade rifle a single. Also the rear sight on the Lyman Trade rifle has a dovetail and the Hawken rear sight is held on by 2 screws. Lyman rear sights will not fit this gun.
