if you want some load info - please furnish a lot more data on the gun you want to load.
Make - barrel length - twist rate - etc......
Pictures would also be nice.
You may or may not get good results from the gun using balls - depends on the barrel specs.
You should also finish your profile so we know what area you are in.
There are a lot of good folks here that would be willing (wanting) to meet up and show you the ins and outs of the gun and what to do and what not to do.

My green mountain barrels like a .390 ball, 0.018 patch, wet lube, 40 gr of 3F. That is my standard club shoot load.

You gun will require you to work up your own load. They are all different. Caliber is only a tiny piece of the puzzle.

In my 40 cal Mowrey - very similar specs as you stated above.
I shoot a .389 round ball, .010 cotton patch, lube with mink, load 50 grains 3F Old Ensford.
She will hold a 1" (+ a tad) group at 50 yards.

One of my favorite .40's that I use for matches has a Rice barrel and I have used .395 with a wet lube and a .015 patch for years with it, along with .40 Gr 3F. Won a lot of ribbons with it over the years...

FWIW, there were three loads that gave awesome accuracy in my Green Mountain barreled .40. These were 30 grains of 3F, 40 grains of 3F and 60 grains of 3F. Forty grains was a great all around, do everything load at about 1700 fps. At 100 yards 60 grains gave, for me, excellent accuracy at some 2150 fps. 30 grains made a good 25-30 yard load for squirrels. The ball used was a home cast .390" and I lubed with either TOW mink oil or Hoppes BP Lube. The patches were heavy canvas (.024"). The bore got damaged and I had it bored out to .45. Great barrel, great rifle, great accuracy.

40gr Swiss 3f

For my .40 I use .395 balls with .015" patches. Use 3F swiss, 40 grains for close up work and 55 grains for out to 100 yards.

Fleener

.010" under ball size, .010 or .015" patch thickness, TOTW mink oil, spit or crisco lube, 30 to 60 grs fffg.

My nephew shoots a 40 caliber 1/66 twist Douglas barrel very well. He shoots a 390 ball .015 patch and 35 grain FFF

What works for some, may not work for you. I have a .40 that I haven’t shot in thirty years, and forget what load I used.

This is what I will be doing. I always started with a measure of powder equal to the caliber, ie .40 cal 40 grains of powder. Two sizes of ball, .390 and .395 and two size patches .15 and .20.

Gonna take a little time to work out what works best, more powder, less powder, ball and patch combinations. Take notes, good luck.
