Hello all. I'm new to the board but not the hobby.
Here's my question.....
I've had three revolvers in my time and have had to work on all of them more often than I'd like.(2 colts and a Remington...all Pietta)
Who makes the best quality Remington repro in your more experianced opinions?
I use these sideguns when I hunt pigs in SW Mo. and I need a rig that won't fail me if I have a P!$$#D off feral running me down.
Thanks for your opinions.

The very best BP revolver is the Ruger Old Army. As far as Remington and Colt copies i don't think you can go wrong with an Uberti.

Ruger Old Army. Built like a tank and a lot more reliable.

No doubt that if traditionalism or historical correctness is of no concern, the Ruger would be the ultimate Pig-Rig.

The new 5.5" barreled ones are really...BITCHEN!!

Thank you all for the info.
I'm a bit of a traditionalist so I'm thinking on going for the Uberti this next time out.
Then again I have never met a Ruger I didn't like......
Either way, I'm a little better informed. Thanks again.

Hammerdhed,

It may also be wise to check out the Pedersoli as well; quite often their quality is a little better than Pietta, and they seem to shoot better with less work.

I have never had any problems with my Uberti 2nd Model Dragoon and I think it's reliable performance and power would make it an excellent choice for your purposes if you want to go traditional. My only reservation would be the fixed sights.

I'm sure the prices won't get lower, because Baretta needs the money to hire Johnny Corchoran and F. Lee Bailey .

I'm glad that I already have a couple of their revolvers.

I didn't know Pedersoli made cap and ball revolvers.

They make 2 in fact; Remington pattern:

and Rogers & Spencer:

I have a Pietta (Remington pattern) which required much work to make it shoot "reasonably", however I have not shot it since I purchased a DP Mang in Graz in .44; this firearm shoots exceptionally well! (Also have a Uberti Schofield in 44/40; this also shoots well).

Thanks for the link. That looks a lot like the Uberti Millenium. Anyone know what the $$ differance is between the two? DGW is running the Uberti for 215.
I actually prefer the fixed sights for the abuse I'll be putting the rig through.

I learn something new everyday on this forum! Thanks lehigh-county, I love Pedersoli quality and would like to find a vendor who carrys those Remington pattern pistols(I just mailed off my tax returns, Hooray). I would also like to get one of those drop-in cylinders that accepts .45 LC cartridges for it. That would be SWEET.

G'day,

Probably the best Remington repro is the Hegge from Germany. One of our top shooters (Olympic & Commonwealth) as well as our top BP shooter, David Moore, swears by the Hegge. Is is certainly a beautiful piece of engineering.

Next in line would be the new FWB (History Number 2)albeit I have not seen it yet. Given the quality of the Underhammer (History Number 1) it is a fair bet that the gun will be beautifully made. It may in fact surpass the Hegge?????

Thirdly is the Pedersoli. I think it is still available with a choice of barrel manufactures.

The Uberti is the best of the also rans. I have owned two Remingtons so far but the real problem with the Uberti is their lack of consistancy. Nipples with different threads from one Remington to another, short and undersize nipples (on my current Remington they were so undersize that the #10 caps even fell off the nipples, so so springs and lack of the attention to detail. However when you look at some of the others then Uberti looks good and it is cheap compared to the firearms listed above. :m2c: :imo:

Cheers from down under
Aussie Bob
