Nelson Lewis Target Rifle

This is my Nelson Lewis of New York target rifle. He believe it is from the 1850’s and is in pretty good shape. Wish I could know everywhere it has been. The bore cleaned up well, it’s a .40 caliber.

Does anyone know what size cap this will use. Larger than a standard cap and smaller than a musket.

If you are going to shoot it, best to just go on and replace the nipple. You will not find a modern production cap that fits an antique nipple well.

Lewis built rifles in Troy, NY.

I am pretty sure that every one of his rifles had a gain twist barrel. Pretty cool feature, I would check to make sure.
