Anyone see the new Pedersoli target pistol for 2017? It is based on their "Continental Dueling" pistol:

It features a set trigger and chromed barrel. It is being advertised as an affordable entry in to muzzle loading target pistol shooting. I emailed Pedersoli about when this will be available in the US and will post their reply when I get it. I will probably pick one of these up as a LePage or similar high end target model is a little out of my budget.

What do you all think?

I just put an order in for this gun from the Italian Firearms Group USA location. It just looks too sweet and like a great intro to BP target pistol shooting, something I've always wanted to do. Hopefully it is as nice as my Pedersoli smoothbore Harpers Ferry percussion pistol. That pistol has but a front blade sight and of course is smooth bore but I've had it shooting out the 10 ring at 15 yards one handed. This Continental Dueling Target model with it's rifled barrel, single set trigger, and proper sights should shoot very well. Pedersoli pistols do great work on the international pistol target circuit.

Actually in the U.S., the only place Pedersoli pistols are used is in the Kentucky matches and the Charles Moore is the most popular.

The dominate line pistols are much more modern, but they are proven winners and most are .32 or 36.

You will have to modify the front sight to shoot it in Kentucky matches as it does not Kentucky requirements.

It does meet NMLRA Kentucky Pistol requirements if it has a "plow handle" and sights "about" 1/4" tall and the front sight blade is

Smokey, it would depend on where you are shooting and who sponsors the competition. Many local groups may have different rules and some may allow under hammers etc.

In pistol shooting there several Agg' and Matches at the National's. For Kentucky matches the pistol you are looking will probably pass inspection. There are also " open " Match's 1000 point Agg unlimited where anything goes, under hammer, inline, adjustable sights, false muzzles and on and on.... I prefer the Traditional side of the pistol matches when I have time. BTW, you can shoot your Kentucky pistol in all the Agg's and often new shooters do just that. I called a friend about this Pedersoli pistol except smoothbore, I am thinking about it for the Internalnational Match in Phoenix.
I hope this helps a little.

Front sight cannot be flat on top, it must rounded on each end, picture will not pass inspection for Kentuky pisrols at Phoenix nor Friendship.

Under hammers do qualify as a percussion, under hammer can be shot in percussion pistol, not in Kentucky.

Yes,I know Alan. I also know he carries a file to fix things like front sights that need attention.

Yep, he knows the rules and fixes the problems into compliance for those who do not know the rules.

Thanks, gang. Lots to think about. I am not necessarily interested in competition, just target shooting. Making small groups for fun. I am also interested in the Pedersoli Carleton underhammer. More expensive but very intriguing.

I would guess far more pistols are used in the back yard than in competition and there anything legal goes

"NMLRA Rules and Regulations, June 2015 edition
6102 Traditional handgun
6102.1 Kentucky pistol
6102.1c.1 Front sight--May be of a height necessary to group at 25 yds. Maximum thickness shall be .100" (7/64")."

There are NO restrictions on shape.
