Why else would they have those comfy chairs sitting all over? (I said I thought it was a bad business practice) It is hardly rationalization. The chairs are a fact. The why is the unknown.
 
Actually based on studies it is a very good business practice. 8 out of 10 people will buy what they read and yes the over priced coffee, etc is the big money maker since book/magazine sales typically have a profit margin of 1% or less while the coffee, etc has a profit margin of plus 10% - so people reading the material is not welfare but good business
 
No "Brag", just fact that most of the monthly/periodical magazines are full of crap....not going to pay 8-10.00 for a slick mag that isn't good musket wadding!

Last trip to Barnes & Noble I left about 40.00 to trade for books worth reading...now our local one is carrying Muzzleloader, and I'll but that one.
