I need a new barrel for an old (24 years) CVA Colonial Pistol chambered in .45. I'm looking for a barrel more out of sentimental value. As such, I don't want the most expensive but a servicable barrel that will be fun to shoot and which may even allow me to hit a target. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've tried CVA but didn't have any luck. :(

I'm curious, why do ya think it's your barrel's fault ya don't hit the target? Or better asked, why do ya think ya need a new barrel?

Keep an eye on E-bay I recently got enough parts together to make a complete pistol. I have always liked the size of the Colonial but could never stand the ramrod so I made some alterations. If your a gotta have it now kinda guy try Deer Creek @ 765-525-6181 I've gotten a few CVA parts from them before, I don't know if they have barrels though.

Pistol I use for competition is an old CVA with a Green Mt. barrel and a Pedersoli single set trigger. It's very accurate.

I don't want to tell you why I need a new barrel. OK, here it is. Years ago, I screwed up on drilling the holes for the two sights. They are not in line by a long shot. You can only compensate so much. I like shooting the pistol when I go camping but it is more of a here it goes let's see if I can compensate today.

I'm sure you already considered redrilling and tapping new holes, maybe 1/4 inch from the old holes?
You could plug the old holes with a piece of threaded stock filed flush with the barrel.

To get threaded stock, all you have to do is buy a steel screw with the right thread on it. Cut off a short length and clean up the cut with a small file.

Just a thought. :hmm:

I agree with Zonie. His method will cost you about $0.50 and take an hour.

Run the screws in, clip them off, peen and file. Hit them with cold blue or brown and you will never know they were there!

Use a center punch and good sharp bit this time. It won't walk off on you that way.

I don't remember those guns having screw on sights!!

:hmm: :hmm:

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it and let everyone know what happens. Hopefully, I can get to it this weekend.
They didn't have screw on sights. What it had was the sight with a metal prong coming out the bottom. You tapped and drilled a hole and then put the sight in with locktight. This pistol is about 24 years old so I'm sure they changed their kits somewhat over the years.

I would definatley try what Zonie said first. If you need parts though Deer Creek probably has them. I bought one fo the front sights about a month ago from them.

Dang , Deadeye , it sounds like the only thing from CVA is the lock and stock :haha: . You have given me a great idea , I think I'll put a GM barrel on my CVA Kentucky pistol  . :hatsoff:

Patch, this CVA was the one with the hooked breech. The original barrel was rusty when I got it. I bored it out to 20 ga. Then later fitted a .50 GM barrel and shot it a few yrs. Then fitted a .45 GM barrel because it shoots fairly flat to 75 yds. with the 20 grs. powder that most clubs around here require. Later put in the Pedersoli trigger. That guns won a lot of matches.
It's as accurate as any pistol I've ever seen.

 I have a GM barrel on my T/C Renegade . If thier pistol barrel is as good as the rifle barrel , I know I'll be happy with it .
