Is there any special cleaning procedure that you should do to the bore, before shooting a brand new muzzleloader for the first time?

Jarikeen,
Clean it like you would if you had just
fired it 10 times. Shoot it 10 times then clean
it like you just got it.
snake-eyes :hmm:

Most new barrels are treated with a thick coating that can take a strong solvent and bore brush to remove. I thoroughly coat my new barrels with hoppes bore solvent and leave overnight. Hit it heavy with a bore brush and soak it again with solvent. Repeat the process a couple of times. It can sometimes take a while to get the stuff out of the barrel.

Agree with Snake-eyes...you want to get all the manufacturing oils leached out of the metal before using it.

I give them a good scrubbing in steaming hot soapy water and dry them immediately to avoid flash rust...then lube them up heavily with whatever lube you use...I happen to use NL1000 but that's just me

I would like to add to this if I may, I have also seen the coating on the outside of the barrel as well, even up into the nipple on percussion guns, don't forget to check those areas on any new barrel...
