Started looking around to order parts for the next build, Looking to build a 24-28 ga smooth bore as the next one. Well barrels arrived Friday, I felt the weight of the box and said OH bOY something ain't right. I unpacked the box to find two 1" across the flats 45 rifled barrels 30" long. I would not feel so bad if they where 13/16" across the flats. anyone ever filed 3/16" of metal off the barrel flats before? LOL. It would cost me more to ship back than to try just to reorder the correct item again. who know I might get some 42" 40cal barrels next. LOL.

If it not what you ordered then contact the vendor and tell them that they made a mistake and sent you the wrong barrels. Tell them that they should pay the return postage -- end of story. BUT if it was YOUR error -- you are now the proud owner of two HEAVY short barrels.

Wasn't my mistake; I'll keep them never know when I might have a buddy at a machine shop one day. $40 for two barrels including shipping, not worth the hassle to send back.

no, SwampRat, don't cave!! make 'em pay the shipping back! if it's not what you ordered, it's not what you ordered, and you ought not to have to 'foot the bill' for someone else's mistake ... make 'em send you what you ordered, and then talk about they are gonna pay for sending their barrels back ... and you'd kinda like a pretty hefty discount on the parts you did order, 'cause now you have to mess with this (in order to fix their goof) and, by golly, your time has value. (if you think it doesn't, ask a plumber or an attorney to 'just take a few minutes ...' and see how far you get)

unless you're related to these folks, now is not the time to be "mellow."

Let me know who the bbl maker was so I can avoid him....Fred

what Flehto said!!

this isn't the sort of supplier we need in the community... I would expect this sort of sloppiness from a 'big box' hardware store, or one of the huge chain places, but barrel makers hold (in my experience) to a much higher standard than this: I've never had anything but absolutely first- rate service from a barrel maker (or, for that matter, anyone selling muzzle loading stuff - it's just not the way we treat each other!)

there's a time to keep quiet, and a time to raise a fuss, even though you might not feel comfortable about doing so. if you stay still, the seller will get the idea that they can treat the next guy this way, so I would urge you to contact them and insist that they make it right.

your call, but if you lambaste them in public, you have my support!

It was a big box gun parts store, I don't know of any barrel maker that would make such a error. You guys are safe with the normal guys.

That's why I order everything on my visa card. Even if you have it in cash or in your checking, use the card.
If they don't get it right you can let the credit card co. go after them for you.
Cant tell you exactly how many times I've had to do it, but I have had the money yanked from a venders account and credited back to me plenty. After reporting it as there mistake it's up to the vendor to prove otherwise. They never do. They know they blew the order. :hatsoff:

Agreed, $40 for the pair INCLUDING shipping isn't worth worrying about. Actually, I'll bet you could make a few $$ on their mistake by selling them.

30" x 1" x .45 could be made up into trade rifles, or plains rifles. Regardless, they're cheap barrels.

You should contact the supplier immediately. Think about this: some guy in a shipping dept. somewhere is scratching his head and thinking, "now where did those barrels go?"

And/or some other customer is p.o.'d standing in the workshop with our o.p.'s barrels. That customer may go after what he/she ordered. By having the seller make things right, it might help a fellow builder.

I don't know much about building rifles, but

That's very cheap for two barrels, you could resell them or put them on a trade blanket and come out ahead. You said big box parts store, if you meant Numrich/Gun Parts Corp. they are really good about returns and will send out a prepaid shipping label promptly and correct the issue.

Plan on doing it tomorrow, I'll let them know. I'm sure I can find something to do with them. If I get them milled down I could just leave the bottom flat high and not have to attach an under rail. LOL. I just think it's funny Here I'm expecting two thin light barrels and I feel that box and know right off the rip, this ain't good.

That would be a very interesting barrel, with a milled integral under rib. Sounds like it would be an expensive machining job if you had to pay for it yourself though.
