. Just finished putting the handles on a chest that I've been working on for awhile now. I used some scrap pine, stained with min-wax walnut stain, finished with a water soluable varnish (not exactly PC :winking: ) The handles are made of hemp rope. Finished project measures 16"L X 11" W X 13" H. I squared the heads of the iron nails on a bench grinder to give the appearance of hand cut nails.

Nice job on the chest, I have used square cut masonry nails because they have a hand made look, I just stick them in the forge and square up the heads for the same reason.

Great Job Soggy! :hatsoff:
Of course now you gotta go out and by all new stuff to fill it up. Lord knows you wouldn't want to fill it with old used stuff :winking:

That's a great job!!! Something I do, and advise others to do, is to make the beckets (handles for you non sea-farers) long enough to pass a tent pole through. That way you can get two guys to carry it in to camp.

Cheers, Bill

That looks great I like the stain you used it gives it that old time look, the square nail idea is great.

  Claudes right! ........Sorry but I was cleaning up my files (something that I don't do very often ) and figured that since that was an inactive post I'd delete the photo from my photobucket account.
If you're interested I'll repost it
