Finally was able to grab my new brass lantern my local tin smith made for me. Reversed punched, simple and perdy!

I like it. Has a litte more life to it than a plain tin one. All that's left is to get some ash on it, a few accidental kicks and some spilled beverages and you'll be set.

Well I was using it last night in the garage while fletching arrows for the warm and fuzzy feel. It does indeed get warm, however it's easily picked up with no problems nor uncomfortable. I think the fact the ring is that, a ring it aids in the cooling effect if that makes any sense, also there's a little cap piece the allows heat to escape as well.

Very pretty and well made, but in my experience they burn candles right at double time speed, and are poor at giving good light. As far as I have found, they were never intended to be primary lighting, but more a way of carrying a protected candle to a real lantern.

I've found that mine like that does best when I close the door for moving around, but leave it open for lighting. Doesn't burn the candles up so fast, either.

+1

I have three of these style lanterns, all of which put out enough light for me and burn time is average on candles. No complaints at all with mine.
