Good for you for not letting Lyman off the hook. That was unacceptable for A brand new rifle. I hope this gets settled soon for you. let us know how you make out and send some pics of your new rifle.

Looking back I failed to post a pic of the touch hole alignment on the repaired rifle I received back.

My Lyman GPR has the touch hole in a similar position .
I think that someone at Lyman has to actually go to the bother of examining the guns they are selling and check on the quality of the products they receive from Investarms .
Then go and shoot the guns and make sure they perform as they should .
My gun was far from perfect and I have had to put right a major design fault and contend with quality control issues .
I would not recommend any friend of mine to buy a Lyman if he expected it to be a shooter right out of the box .

I also have Lyman GPR with the touch hole in this same position, but it is a good shooter, and it has a very fast ignition, so I am happy with it.

Update:
I requested a full refund from Lyman yesterday. I was informed Monday by the Lyman tech that the new gun had been shipped on Thursday of last week from the factory in CT. When I didn't receive it as of yesterday I called Lyman customer service and was informed that it had not been shipped. It's been 2 months since initial purchase and nearly a month since I agreed to an exchange and still nothing on the way. So I'm done. I give up. I'm not going to rehash the details that are chronicled in this thread but frankly as a consumer I feel like this situation has been mishandled in just about every way possible. Now they have the rifle and my money and we'll see where that goes.

It's sad how things are going for you. I have one that's been sitting in the closet unfired since I bought it. I have no idea how the rifle will behave yet but I sure hope I don't need any help from Lyman to correct anything.

I will post my results when I get some. I would have shot it months ago but have not been able to find any ball at our local gun supply stores. I will probably end up ordering some thru the mail. When you ask for rb's they just give you a dumb look and say they never sell. This is PA too.

That's really bad customer service on Lyman's part. My local Gunshop had 6 brand new Deerstalkers that were priced right($402.00), I had thought about getting one but after reading this thread I had second thoughts. I recently went and looked closely at one, it looked OK so I again considered buying it.
After reading the crumby way that Lyman treated you, I WILL NOT buy another Lyman product!
I have. .54 Great Plains that I built from a kit that is a tremendous gun and shoots great, so I won't say that Lyman products are junk.
Any mass produced product has the potential to be a lemon or junk, but the way the manufacture addresses the problem is what makes the product a good value.

It's really a shame how Lyman has gone into the toilet quality wise, they were number 2 to T/C for years.

Guess a person's only choice now is having to order custom built, pay big money and wait a long time to get your order. Or you go to Pedersoli, hello, Pedersoli.

This is really going to help grow the M/L shooting industry, it will continue to shrink and then go away.

Lyman has become the Pinto of the M/L industry as of now.

For those who wish to argue, please post recent posts here which are boasting about "recent" Lyman purchases in the last 6 months which they are extremely happy with.

It's a shame you've what you've had to deal with. I bought a GPR about a month ago and could'nt be happier with it. The fit and finish is right on and it shoots great. I just hope I don't start having problems and have to ask Lyman for help, there's no excuse for poor customer service.

Received a rifle from Lyman that was coincidentally(?) shipped the day after I requested a refund. It is a wonderful Deerstalker, a pick of the litter level of quality. Wood is beautiful, it fits together nicely although I did have to slightly bend the wedge to get it through. Touch hole is a little high but perfectly centered over the pan. The bluing issue on the breech end of the barrel is ever so slightly apparent although not nearly enough to be an issue for me. Again, this is a beautiful gun.

Obviously I wish I hadn't gone through this to get what I thought I had purchased in the first place. After everything, I was back and forth on whether I would keep it or sell it and rid myself of the experience completely. But I came to realize that I fought way too hard to get what I felt I deserved to now send it elsewhere. I can't say I'm a proud Lyman owner but I'm happy to finally have a beautiful flintlock to take to the range and the woods.

Well, I can remember an old saying My Dad used. " The squeaky Wheel gets the Grease !!" I did a lot of " Squeaking " to get a new Lock for My GPR !! It`s a decent Flinter now.!! Glad you`re a happy Shooter now.....
