Novice at collecting Civil War items have delt with WW1 and WW2 items of the past 50+ years. Recently picked up 1861 Springfield which I will need some advice or opinion from the forum members.

Thanks for the offer. Located in Andover, but need to clean the barrel, seems to be something in it, like a sleeve. I don't think it is a ball. So someone, at sometime did something with this thing. May turn out to be a wall hanger.
