From Long Island originally, currently living in the Finger Lakes region. Was not raised around firearms but became a hobbyist/collector as an adult. Don’t currently own any muzzle loaders. Found this forum hunting the classifieds but think I’ll stick around a while.

Have always been fascinated with American History, especially the Revolutionary War. Combining these two interests it’s only natural I’d want a Brown Bess of my own. Have recently been studying the Civil War and added an 1861 Springfield to the wanted list.

Thought about joining a local Revolutionary War reenactment group many years ago before I moved (mostly as an excuse to buy a musket) but never followed through. Sewing is another hobby of mine and always thought it would be cool to make some traditional period clothing.

I enjoy camping want to learn more about hunting and trapping, a couple other skills I missed out on in my upbringing. Thanks for having me!
Welcome from central Pennsylvania

Welcome from southern Otsego County / the western edge of the Catskills.

Geographically New York is a beautiful state with many large state parks and lots of forests. I'd say wilderness but these days it hard to find somewhere in the state where you can walk for a mile on a road and not come across a house. Perhaps in the Adirondack Park region but then you can't build any more homes there I believe.
As for politically....... people from Upstate are leaving in droves moving to free America
I see you moved from The Island I assume to escape the chaos there. My neighbor moved to the family land here 3 years ago from LI as he was tired of dodging bullets on the way to work. They have owned the land across the street for 50 years so not really a new escapee

Welcome though. Finger Lakes is beautiful with many recreational activities. Enjoy!!

If you like sewing, may I suggest a rifleman's smock as a first project. Try one out of cotton from Walmart first and then you can get linen from Joann Fabrics for a more authentic version. Directions can be found in many places... Sketchbook '76 and Beth Gilpen's book. I cheat and if you can't see the seam I use the sewing machine but hand stitch anything that can be seen.

There's lots of interest in French & Indian War up that way. Look up a copy of Muzzleloader magazine; it may interest you to subscribe; it is carried on better newsstands, like the magazine section in Barnes & Noble, etc. It's a bi-monthly heavy on F&I and Rev War, re-enacting, etc.
