Very nice, dutchman. I like it--great architecture--you don't need fancy when they look this good...

Now that is my kind of gun, outstanding! I like to see builders break away from the common and conventional gun forms. German influenced fowlers are really overlooked. Well done Chris.

Hey Chris, great looking piece!! I really like the color. What size is the vent hole?
Tom

It's 5/64" and coned on the inside with the nifty little nail coning tool.

Very Nice :hatsoff: Appears it was worth your pains

I took a look at your link and that one is cool too! What caliber is it?

You mean the Spanish butt German gun? It's half stocked with a full octagon barrel that is REAL thin from the middle forward. It is slightly flared at the muzzle. Right at .50 caliber (that's right). Weighs about six pounds! It is NOT a child's gun, but is full sized. I don't remember, but I think the pull length is a very normal 13 3/8" or something like that. It handles BEAUTIFULLY. I think some of the "cast off" in the butt is caused by warpage, but not all of it. It feels real nice. It's the only gun I have (out of my vast collection of 5 old guns) that is in its original flintlock condition. The touch hole is about 5/64" and is coned on the inside. The breechplug is about 7/16" long with fairly normal looking threads. The breechface is notched a bit, though it didn't have to be, as the touch hole doesn't cut into the threads. The original front rod pipe is missing, but the plain sheet brass base is still on the barrel. I have a temporary rod pipe on it, but I need to do a proper one. The original pipe (judging by the base) was double length. The wood is marvelously non-refinished or sanded. You can see all the beautiful scraper marks on the stock. The wrist is not round, but is made up of lots and lots of tiny facets, made by drawing the scraper down the wrist. I learned an awful lot from this gun.
