Several years ago I posted here a little bit, but got diverted into BPCR. I did keep a couple of cap n ball revolvers, but sold the one rifle I had, a TC Hawken. Now I find myself seriously bitten by the ML bug and am starting all over. I have been scrolling back through the various forums just gathering information. I am amazed at the amount and level of knowledge here. Incredible. I have also begun reading a few books; The Gunsmith of Grenville County, Recreating the American Long Rifle and The Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifle by Kauffman. Fascinating stuff! I want to pick up a good flintlock to get started, but ultimately want to really understand what I want and get something a bit more special. Right now I need to learn how to shoot and maintain a muzzleloader and I find the varieties just overwhelming. You guys have already helped me immeasurably and I look forward to learning more.

Welcome back! Yeah, it can be a bit daunting, or at least seem that way. Your background with shooting previously, and even the BPCR gives you a head start. Just jump in amongst us...alwasy room for another!

Goose, you're in good company. Lot's of knowledge and good folks here. Good to have you. :)

I'd take a long hot soak in your local history from 1680 to 1800 or so, and see what really struck my fancy, then start putting together a package to go with the appropriate firearm. You are fortunate, for Massachusetts is very nearly Ground Zero for colonial history.
