New Knife, Please Let me Know What You Think!

Hii all! I switched over to the dark side and have been making mostly modern designed knives, but finally came back and made a traditional(ish) knife. The blade is acid etched 1084 with a stabilized premium grade maple handle. Its quite the slicer and would make a great knife to have in your possible bag as a patch knife Please let me know what you think!

Shes a beauty! I like the style of blade and it looks as if there is plenty enough handle to get a grip on. That looks like a good honest working knife, not too big , not too flashy , just meant for business :thumbsup: .

Thank You! It is a very comfortable knife in hand. I have smaller hands than most, but it fits people with bigger hands well too. My goal is to make a good working knife, but one that has a little class to it

As a knife buyer, the only thing I could think of changing would be if it had a taper tang?

again, the knife you made is amazing, I am just speaking from the standpoint of a custom knife buyer: you take that blade, give it a nice tapered tang, and instead of stabilized maple (isn't that epoxy reinforced maple made in a vacuum?) you get some regular dried curly maple and aquafortis, seal it...hot dog :grin:

Thank you! I love this wood, I was excited when I sanded it up and saw all that figure! I made a mistake and ordered all in one instead of just leather dye...it's kinda like edge coat. I just decided to go with it and liked the end result!

Thank you. And I appreciate constructive criticism. The customer wanted stabilized wood (and the stabilizing process is a bit more complex than that, but essentially what you described). I have used aqua fortis on natural maple and love the way it looks. As far as a taipered tang goes...I'm learning how to do one, but on a knife that's less than 8 inches long, don't really see the need for it. On a bigger knife I would, but might try on shorter knives too.

that is bladesmithing science/magic, and I do not understand it one bit, just that it makes the knife feel nicer in the hand when somebody does it well: the balance and how it sings in your hand when using it. couple a tapered tang with some simple file work patterns on the spine.....

not criticisms, just things that cause my wallet to open faster when I am in the market to buy a knife :hatsoff:

The tang was skeletonized (drilling large holes in the tang to reduce weight and improve epoxy adhesion) so it's balance was already right where I like it. Any lighter in the handle and it wouldn't feel balanced, that's all I'm saying. I really do appreciate your opinion and will be doing taipered tangs in the future!
