Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.
I don't know anything about Traditions guns but TOTW lists an L&R replacement lock for Traditions. So I would say you are in luck. I don't consider the L&R lock an upgrade to the “new” TC lock but it is a big improvement over the standard Lyman lock. What I have read here, I suspect the L&R would be a worthwhile upgrade to a Traditions, too. L&R locks are made right and right here in the USA.
I'll second ebiggs on replacing the original lock with one from L&R ... its the best investment you can make in that rifle. The parts are properly heat treated, they fit nicely, and the lock has a much better "snap" than the original Traditions version.
Thanks all, I just found that lock on the Dixie site too. My build is not ready to hunt with yet and it's 3 weeks til our flint season. I kept saying I wouldn't buy a Traditions, but this one was close to home and priced OK, considering. I shot it and aside from me being very very new with this, it was not bad. Had trouble getting spark at first.
My logic is use it this year, finish the kit in the next year and let my oldest boy use the Trad. til I get one built for him.
