I put one (L&R) on my TC and I would say it is much more than a little inletting. It goes completly through to the barrel channel in places. L&R says that is OK but I don't think I will put any more on a TC. Your Lyman may be different, however.

I know it seems like a much less expensive way to have a gonne with a better lock on it. But IMHO a production gun is a production gun is a... Think about saving for a nice semi custom gun that comes with a nice slick lock to begin with. Even if it takes you a while it will be worth it. you will be glad you did it in the end. Just my thoughts.

Ya know, I used to think that all the time too. But you'll be throwing a hunderd bucks at the same gun. Them coil spring locks work just fine.wayf said:
What ya can do for free (cost free) is take your current lock apart, polish the barring surfaces, clean and lube everything , tighten the screws proper,maybe do the same thing to the trigger,,and ya know what? the lock ya got will likley work just as fast as any after market drop in that can be bought :wink:
I put one of the RPL locks on my GPR, and I couldn't be happier. There was a bit a wood removal required, but it was mostly internal. I don't know how it will fit a Lyman Trade tho.

i agree wholeheartedly... one of the problems of a factory made anything is that there are inevitable compromises in internal finish, unless you're in the very upper end of the price range (say, Steyer SSG). so, if you have a production lock, you can't go wrong with a little judicious cleaning and polishing - i say judicious because you don't want to polish out the hardened part of the sear or make changes to angles or anything like that. same for the trigger.
that way, you've invested nothing but some of your time and a small bit of materials, rather than going out and buying a whole new lock.
just one guy's opinion.

Read your own post. It is obvious you like shooting muzzle loaders--that's good. Your last line is the problem. How can you know how much 90% of the shooters like muzzleloaders? Maybe you don't like it better than they do. Maybe that's a load of nonsense. Maybe someone once insulted your rifle, and since it is a commonly available production gun you felt diminished and are trying to make yourself feel better by bragging that you like shooting better than 90% of the rest of us. Or perhaps you are just easy to please. Don't know. Maybe in the throes of your orgasmic joy over your superior love of muzzleloading you simply forgot to finish your post? Sort of "writus interruptus?" Keep smilin' and keep on enjoyin' that rifle. :v

It sure does, if that's what he meant. Although, how he could possibly know how well 90% of us shoot is still beyond me and it does make him out to be something of a braggart. A huge one. I believe I liked it better the other way, now that I think of it! :rotf:
