Hey Joe...
Thanks for coming on here and trying to address an issue that some folks seem to be incredibly overwrought about, for no reason. :hatsoff: You have your work cut out for you partner. Wasting time countering specious arguments is a lot like mud wrestling with a pig. :rotf: :rotf: Eventually you realize the pig is enjoying himself, and give up. :surrender:
At my local club, just as on this forum...we have some incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely good folks who have their own picayune reason for not wanting to join the NMLRA. That's all fine. Do what you can, stay focused on the future and folks who want to see the sport of shooting muzzleloading firearms grow will come along if we make them ALL feel welcomed.

Joe,

Let me add another welcome to the forum, and I appreciate your well reasoned post and the work you are doing for the Association.

It really scares me that if the current trend isn't reversed the Association may have to shutdown in 10 years. Gift memberships are a good idea, as are the other initiatives regarding reaching out to younger generations through an expanded digital presence.

"Expanded digital presence."
There's a strategic key if I ever saw one. If I could write computer games, I would come up with something like "Call of Duty" but set at the time of the French and Indian War, or the Revolution, with authentic firearms being used correctly. I'm sure it would draw many young people into the fold. Films like "Last of the Mohicans" prove there can be broad interest in this period.

I left the NMLRA 3 years after the FT TY ML Association closed. The magazine became all poems and BS about Friendship and much less about the territories. I was surprised with that as Eric Bye was from VT but there it was.

I would need to see a lot more improvement for $40 bucks just to shoot in most non-existent territorials in New England. No listing of shoots at other clubs either.

Spend $40 bucks to look at it I do not think so.

Fleener, We talked about hooking up with ya last Spring at Friendship but unfortunately it didn't happen. Had enough on my plate at the time, it being my first time and all!

Let's make it happen for sure this coming Spring! Jethro and I will be there for sure. That's if he can put up with me again! I'll bring the bottle for the campfire and a dummy cord for my false teeth! :rotf:

See ya then!

Respectfully, Cowboy

I second that! Great job on the magazine revamp. The NMLRA needs all our support. Unfortunately, black powder shooting in general seems to be old timers like myself more and more.

It is about much more than the range at Friendship and the magazine. The NMLRA also helps protect ALL ML shooters rights.

Members and non members. When you have an association with thousands of members, when you knock on a Congressman's door, they have a tendency to listen. That one of the things that associations do, protect the rights of their members.

The price of membership for me is a very small one to pay, even if you will never go to Friendship. At $40 a year it is a steal.

I cant take my family of 4 out to supper and get by with less $40, unless we go to some crappy fast food place.

Fleener

Cowboy, we will certainly have to hookup in June.

Looking forward to it.

Fleener

"No listing of shoots at other clubs either."

Pages 18 to 21 lists other shoots from Charter Clubs and the dates.

When did the people whining about the decline in younger shooters did anything to actively mentor young shooters? All the fundraising and gunbuilding is fine, but what we need is 50K youth and kids rifles. Only if a kid has access and opportunity to shoot something fitting, the fire will be able to compete with computer games and social media stuff.
Where are the sons/ daughters of the older members? The older members sometimes bring their grandkids. Where are the friends of their grandkids?

Yeah, ain't that sumpthin? They not only look gorgeous, they've really stepped up in content as well. The only drag is, before i didn't feel bad about tossing them or passing them along to others after reading them. Now - OH NO - yet ANOTHER magazine I gotta save and collect and find room around my house to stack 'em up in!!!

Rob Root shoots unlimited Modern class only. nmlra cannot lobby for gun rights as then NRA does. You want members offer a $10.00. membership with no magazine. Damn few of us in the northeast will ever see friendship or want to. So $10.00 with no real benefit and little cost would be a money maker for NMLRA.

If the only focus of the NMLRA is the number of memberships they have.....Then they will never get a dime of my money and they are ripe for the picking.... :td:
Without new membership there is no ripe for the picking ,just the stink of rotting (just sayin)

Yep! folks can milk that for a lot of mileage...
Funny thing is I misread the topic....So when I posted my rant it really isn't about what you think it is.....

I wouldn't dwell on it....unless you like dwelling on nothing... :v
