I got some at Monsurs in Lacrosse a couple of years ago it was 20.00 a lb I since have ordered from Graffs 4 lbs was almost 75.00 so there is no cheap powder. We have a Gander in Eau Claire and they only carry the subs.

The more powder you order, the cheaper the price, guys. The store can't make much profit if you only buy 4 lbs, so it charges more. We have members here who have recently bought a case of powder through Grafs. and paid less than $12.00 a pound.

I pay about $12 a lb. for Goex 2&3F here in Virginia. A friend of mine goes to Winchester (NSSA)and gets it from a local store up there. Now Swisse is going for more then $20 a lb.

I have a little of the sub left and once it is gone, will use nothing but the holly black in the future. Now as to my FL, it will only shoot BP in it. It doesn't like the subs at all.

I also like to load my single shot cartridge rifles with BP. I love the billowing smoke.

Hardball--what is wrong with you? Everyone knows those 1in48 twists ain't no good for round balls and those lymans are cheapo reproductions that aren't worth the price of scrap metal used to build em....

Haha... Great shooting and thank you for the post with ocular proof of what a cheapie lyman can do.

Yeah, ordering 25 pounds of Black is a good deal. If it seems like too much to have on hand or if it costs more than you can budget---it is one of those purchases you can shares with others!!

Enjoy!

I brought my Deerstalker along that day, since it hadn't been shot since I bought it 2 months ago. I've been working on handloads for my Marlin leveraction and thought I'd break-in the Deerstalker while the barrel of my Marlin cooled.

At the end of the day, my Deerstalker, with iron sights and a patched round ball had easily out shot my scope sighted modern centerfire rifle. That filthy blackpowder rifle also cleaned up in a fraction of the time it takes to clean copper and lead fouling out of my centerfires.

Makes a fellow ponder the merits of these new fangled smokless rifles.

Really good groups there Hardball!
I got one of them Deerstalker in Flint, shoots good but not that good with the similar load but 10 less grains....Maybe I'll give 80 a try.
