Hey everyone. Just like to start to say I’m getting into muzzleloading this year and actively looking to purchase my first. I have my eyes on a Traditions Whitetail .54cal model in great shape used. Any additional help from some experienced enthusiasts on here to get my prepared for next season would be great! What I do and don’t need, great places to start, anybody that knows of places in Canada to purchase supplies would help as well! Thanks

The Traditions Whitetail .54 I mentioned is a classic percussion cap style. The barrel is stamped “Whitetail R .54 1-48” but on their website the model that looks the same is a ”Deerhunter Percusssion”. It may be an older model I’m not too sure. But it’s the only .54 I’ve found, I know .50 is much more common to buy as first and should be “easier” to get supplies, but I’m leaning towards going with the PRB and making my own considering I have no local gun shops that deal with muzzleloaders and I will have to order online for most stuff except maybe special order powder in. And this being the case I’m told the .54 will be superior to the .50 for whitetail sized game and black bears out to say 75yards.

SFRC in eastern Ontario is one place I have bought stuff from. Google them. Not sure current status of black powder & supplies though.
