I don't do other people's research for them, except on contract.
You don't sound like a participating member of a helpful community where folks join to be willing to give as well as get knowledge about a particular subject.

You sure don't.
To clarify, I am not trying to be mean spirited, but you would be absolutely amazed at the number of times I have asked a similar question in other hobby venues in the past and gotten blasted for it. I got tired of it. I learned better and figured out what my late father meant when he said "That's life"!
You want something?
Work for it.
You want knowledge?
Seek it on your own, because otherwise the guy telling you something that you believe might well turn out to be an out and out BLEEP blasted liar in the end...

Peace,

JAK

I have both revolver and single shot pistols and I enjoy the single shot the most. I got started in black powder with a single shot pistol kit. I progressed from there. I recently bought a Deer Creek Pistol kit from Dixie Gunworks for $190. Deer Creek may still have them to offer for a lesser Price. They would be worth calling to find out. 765-525-6181

If you do get the Cabela's gun, don't waste your money on their "shooters kit".

For shooting your revolver all you really need is the lead roundballs in the right size (.375 for a .36 caliber, .454 for a .44 caliber), a container of #11 caps, some real black powder or Pyrodex or 777 powder and a black powder measure and your ready to shoot.
Some folks also like to use something like Crisco or one of the patch lubes like BoreButter to put over the loaded ball. It helps to keep the powder fouling in the bore soft.

For basic shooting, you do not need felt wads but some folks like them.

The powder measure can be just a simple tube but the ones that have an adjustable feature are handy for setting different powder loads.

To clean your gun all you really need is a brush, some cleaning patches, a drop of dishwashing soap and some water.
You also will need a good gun oil to coat all of the steel surfaces.

Have fun.

gunsinternational.com under muzzle-loaders has a few nice single shot pistols and revolvers. I have bought a rifle and a shot gun from them....both excellent deals. The rifle is an older CVA .50 1-66 twist and is my most accurate shooter. Cost was $149.00!

I have two pietta revolvers and love both. I prefer steel frame but the brass will last if you keep the charge lite 20 grains

I thought most of the revolvers used a #10 cap, has that changed? :hmm:

Nossir - some like #10 and some like #11. Get some of each, try them out, and trade the ones that don't fit.

I find that #10 AND #11 from two different brands fit my ROA.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for my absence from the thread. I didn’t think I would get as big of a response as I did. After reading the comments ranging from go ahead and get the pistol and to save for a rifle, I did some thinking. I loved firing and handling the rifle, and I do think the right move is to save up and to try and get one at some point, or find one at the right price here on the forum. I will be checking out all the links that were posted and replying in just a bit.

Thanks again for your help.

Hey Nit Wit,

I just sent the seller of the Hawken a message to see if we could work something out, but it looks like I may be too late on that on. Is that Jukar a rifle? Sorry for my ignorance, still in the process of learning my way around the various brands available.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. Will be updating my profile in just a moment.
