Morning all, wanted to post a little gem of a find I just received yesterday. I've been eyeing one of these for awhile just couldn't justify the cost... However, after looking around I found this on etsy (wonderful site) vintage ash adirondack pack basket! Got it for a heck of a price, canvas straps are a little faded, but I plan on replacing them with cotton straps anyways. Basket is in excellent shape, tight weaving with no cracking or splitting. Approx. 18"H with a 14" W, should be plenty sufficient for gear and multiple other event tasks. Very excited to take it along to rendezvous!

Looks like Harvest Basket Style.Try these books and make your own,,not difficult at all. ( The Basket Book by Lyn Siler,ISBN 0-8069-6828-1 (Very good for instructing) OR Splint Woven Basketry by Robin Taylor Daugherty ISBN 0-934026-22-x
Either one, The first one goes into the instructing more indepth both are good.
Good way to get a basket inexpensive and pass time at a Rendezvous,,while staying in "period" something to put on the blanket!!!!Winter is fast coming on us,,time passing more quickly if your busy!!!!! You can buy all the supplies on line or at some Craft stores,,,,,

I did think about weaving one, however with three builds going on at once I've got my hands full with smoke pole projects! Definitely another avenue I'd like to venture down though. I was just excited I got a good basket that will serve many purposes. I would like to ask, what are your thoughts on staining?

Stain before you weave,,or let it get it's own persona as you use it..I have soaked a completed one in coffee before just to take the new look away.Good thing with baskets, they are relatively quick to weave and you can come and go as you wish.
I gave my S.I.L my Trapper Basket last winter for his Ice Fishing gear.

Vomir, Thanks for the book suggestions. I have the Daugherty book ordered and will get the Siler from the library. They can only help since I can't know less about basketry than I do now.

Silky, Crewdawg is 27. As I recall, sleep was rather optional at that age.
