Here is a patch knife I finished a few weeks ago. I forged the blade from an old file. It has a moose antler handle with a brass guard.

Swwweeet, nice combination of materials. Is the blade beveled on both sides or or one side only?

You did a great job its real nice !! what lenght is the blade and handle ?

That is some nice work .Love the plug grind with the some of the file teeth left of the blade

Not bad. I'm guessing this is not your first? Very good fit work and shaping, nice plunge, good balance in grip size to the blade. My only criticism would be that I think it would look better with the file marks removed. Your grip work is too nice for the blade finish. Still pretty nice work though.

Thanks for your generous comments. I have not posted any photos of the knives I make on this site. I just joined a few months ago. I am a very part-time maker right now. My Wife just had our fourth child in February so I do not have much time for forging or knife making. Judging from some of the work I have seen here I am in good company. I should have included the particulars of the knife when I posted so here goes. I forged it from an old rusty file. I found a wooden orange crate full of old, dull files and rasps about ten years ago at a garage sale. They have been my materials for about that long. I do on occasion use old leaf springs and high carbon stock, but most of my knives are from files. Blade is 5" long and double beveled. The handle is also 5". It is an old moose tine I tried to age by charring it and using some very diluted leather dye. Once again thank you for your critiques and I hope to post some more knives when I get them done. :hatsoff:

What I like most of all is the simplicity in the way you executed your intent. Clean and elegant, and rugged all at the same time, plus you are showing us what it was made from.....

Very nice.

That is a vetry nice looking knife and I suspect it handles very well from the looks of the shape, nice job.
