My wife came home from the store yesterday and while there she got a free sample of "Doctor Burts RES-Q Ointment' It comes in a little tin ,kinda like percussion caps. Its for burns and scrapes etc.I thought it might make a new patch lube,as it contains Almond oil, olive oil, bees wax, lavender oil. What do you think?

Try it, worse thing that could happen is either it becomes as hard as a rock and you need to get your barrel replaced or it works better than anything you ever tried and you can't find it anywhere.

Bee's wax and Olive oil seems to be a popular mix where folks will adjust the blend to their suiting so that's a plus.
From that point I guess I'd look at cost,
(like how does it compare to just Olive oil an Bees wax) and long term availability.
I mean ya find something good yer gonna wanna stick with it for years

Why do I have this picture in my mind of a guy carrying his longrifle thru a field with a swarm of bees buzzing around the muzzle?

That lavender oil might attract all sorts of critters. :rotf:

OK. OK.

It probably will work pretty good as a patch lube but before getting your hopes up, better find out how much the stuff costs. :(

Bag Balm has a vasoline base. Vasoline does NOT make a god lube. How do I know ? I tried it in the sixties! :idunno:

I would think it would work just fine. Folks have tried everything on the planet as a lube so why not something by Burt's Bees. Even though almost everything imaginable has been tried, don't try Preparation H because it tends to reduce the muzzle diameter by at least one caliber. ;>) :haha:
