I shot my Pedersoli 12g double on tuesday evening with a freind whome was using a Mortimer 12g. Mine shoots very reliably however the stock does not quite fit- I could do with a little cast off to the right. I,m in no rush but I can feel some wood work coming on  It shoots as expected as in a head up position of wich I find acceptable. The triggers are way to light and so last night I spent three hours trying to stiffen them up a little, the right barrel trigger now feels better but I am not so sure about the left but I am going to wait untill a nother field test has past  We were shooting squirrel and pigeon in a lovely small wood of pine and oak, using 1 1/4oz of 4s&3s(mixed) on an 1oz equiv of pyrodex my gun was downing varmints pretty fine alas though I had no shots at flying birds. I had 5 squij and 4 pigeon.
My freind had 5 pigeon and a crow. The crow and 1 pigeon were on the wing! He was really pleased as he does not shoot his m/l very often. He chose to keep things simple and just carried his cards/powder and shot in his pockets how ever what I found interesting was when we meat up for the jorney home on dark he related how his bore was getting difficult to load as he was not using any lube so as he thought about it he ate a small orange were upon the idea struck him to load powder then a thin card, now he thumb pressed orange peel into the bore and sandwiched with another card sent it down and then loaded the shot! He says it did the trick and loading was fine again.... how about that then for improvising :shocked2: I love m/l s

Great idea.I have had a Pedersoli 12 double for about a month.No problems,shoots good,feels good ,looks great.

It,s just those blasted triggers.... they are a bit crude and in my humble opinion not to easy to improve. Any ways it makes reliable smoke so I,m happy :)

Never heard of the orange peel trick before, that's a new one for sure. Wait till you try shooting birds with flintlocks. Small secret:

follow through, follow through, follow through!!

Congrats on your new Peder 12g! Did you have any misfires with the pyrodex? What kind of caps / nipples are you using? I've had all sorts of misfires with pyrodex is why I ask, and my hotshot nipples have been backordered for like 5 months.

I am not sure why you are having all the misfires, i used Pyrodex exclusively in my Navy Arms double .12 and never had a misfire in all the years i used it. I used the stock nipples and Pyro. RS. Are you getting ALL the oil out before you load it the first time?

Hi, good question from Rebel re oil left in the barrel; how many caps do you fire (on their own) to dry off the barrel before loading the full load?

Man most wally werlds carry hot shot nipples--5 months :bull: I'd be shopping elsewhere

Tamara, not a single miss fire  I use rem no 11 caps on Peder nipples. I allways swab the bore and remove the nipples to see how much oil has acrude there (olive oil) and atend to as required. If I not completly happy I will pop a cap and then drop a sniff of powder and a wad and fire that but this is rarely required I have found over the years with the few guns I have owned. Be mindfull to put a wad in or a good stack of cards as with no shot a thin card can flip and be a real pain to remove. This happened to me on a pheasant shoot on the morning and that gun miss fired most of the day and was very embarrasing as cartridge shooters just love to make a mockery of a gentleman shooter as oppossed to the masses whome enter from the rear shall we say :winking: Seriously I know people on here say otherwise but all Peder,s I have owned(3) I have had to open the nipple hole a tiny tiny bit, I can,t remember the size but the drill bit resembled a pin and you had a job to tell the differance from the standard and the drilled one- that is how cautious I was
Good luck.

Well, I'll check my local Wally World's, then. I had no idea that they carried hot shot nipples.

It must be something I'm doing wrong then. When I'm done cleaning, I run a patch down both bores with some Natural Lube 2000. I smear a little of this on the threads of the nipples also.

When I go to shoot, I run a dry patch down both bores, take out the nipples and run a pipe cleaner through both holes. Make sure I can see daylight through both nipples. Then I put them back on, and fire 2-3 CCI No. 11 magnum caps on each. The caps always "kick up dirt" at the end of the barrels, so I know the paths are clear.

Should I be using a solvent of some kind before I shoot? To get all of the lube out?

Tamara,
Everyone does it differently, but I run an alcohol soaked patch through to get out any oil, or other lube, left from cleaning and storage. Then fire 2-3 caps before loading. I do that with my rifles as well as my smooth bores.
Mark
