Well, I'm not too proud of my workmanship, but the wood sure is purty. Just finished putting together a pistol stand for the pistol that I built. I pinned the main pieces together with dowels and glued them. The corner pieces are glued and nailed. I used aqua fortis with an overcoat of LMF maple stain to finish it. You can't see it, but there is a recess in the base for the handle of the pistol. So far just one coat of boiled linseed oil. The more things I build myself, the more appreciative I am about the quality work that other people do. I left a hole for a ramrod, but haven't been able to find the right piece of maple for a handle. Oh, by the way, I found the wood in a stack of clear maple at a Menard's store.

Yes the wood is purty, but I see no problem with the design or workmanship. Good job

Grasshopper, you do nice work only problem I can find with it is I dont have it

That came out great! You sure got lucky on the wood. I can never find a decent piece like that in any of the local stores. Very well done. :)

Looks sturdy and the wood is pretty.

I have though of making a sland for loading a similar pistol, but I have visions of the concerntration of loading force snapping the grip. I have worked out loading it without a stand. It takes a lot of work and coordination.

On the other hand, maybe, I will build one and load with a loose ball.

Very nice stand , but that pistol ....looks great ! You might want to put something on the base of your stand to keep the pistol from slipping out when you are loading . I'm not trying to be nasty or smartass , just don't want you to mess up your pistol or stand from a loading accident :v .

That wood and finish is beautiful, the pistol is gorgeous , but the workmanships :hmm: .... ummmm, well, ummm.....maybe you just need yur glasses checked :winking: ... nothing wrong with the workmanship that I can see.. :rotf:

I have had the same concerns about snapping off the handle of the pistol when ramming down the load on the stand, but I mainly made the stand to display the pistol. I did inlet the handle of the pistol into the base a little. I plan on lining the groove in the top piece with felt and possibly the depression in the base as well.

Actually, I have one on display in the front door area of my home and was thinking that a loading stand and ball bag would make a better display. I might need to study your desgn a bit harder. Where did you come up with that pretty wood?

(BTW, Cookie is bound to be a lot better looking than me, so I don't blame you for thinking of her.)
